About Hilton Head Island Surf Travel
Hilton Head is a beautiful, wooded and expensive resort island. On the whole, the island has about as much character as Dan Quayle. The surf potential here is also not terribly good, due to a wide continental shelf and occasional sandbars from outflow from the Broad River, so you’ll find typical Carolina beachbreak with no real standout areas. Many resorts have private beach access, so check at Coligney, Folly Field, Forest or Driessen’s beaches, which have public access and parking. Hilton Head picks up the best swells from the south and east, and works best on an incoming tide. Hurricane swells will be best.
