Macaroni's

Surf Guide

One of the most perfect performance waves in the world, just about everything possible on a wave, is possible at Macaroni's. It's a submerged left point that barrels the length of the reef but also tapers into an incredibly rippable wall. Because of the machine-like perfection of both wall and barrel, Macaroni's is arguably responsible for the most amazing advances in performance surfing seen in the Mentawais. Its renown also makes "Maccas" one of the more crowded breaks around, and a recently built land camp has increased crowds to a near constant. Although it's playful at three feet, the take off begins to ledge at five to six feet and only becomes heavier, until about 8 feet when it maxes out. Like many area waves, it's best to take off up at the top, as the wave gathers speed as it goes. Alternatively, deceptively perfect looking waves can lure surfers further up the point into unmakeable slabs. Click here to download Surfline's Mentawais Surf Guide pdf.
